Historical milestones, founding origins, and technological breakthroughs.
Zetor was born in 1946 at the Zbrojovka arms and precision manufacturing works in Brno, Czechoslovakia, following World War II. The name "Zetor" blended the letter "Z" (from Zbrojovka) with the end of "traktor". Its first model, the Zetor 25, became an immediate success, leading to more than 150,000 units produced and rapid international export.
In 1960, Zetor revolutionized tractor engineering by creating the "Unified Range I" (UR I)—the world’s first systematic tractor platform where engines, transmissions, and chassis shared 80% interchangeable parts across 20 to 80 HP. In 1968, Zetor introduced the legendary "UR II Crystal", which made history as the world’s first production tractor equipped with an integrated safety rollover cab mounted on rubber silent-blocks to protect the driver. Over its history, Zetor has built over 1.3 million tractors, exporting to more than 130 countries.
Pioneered modular component sharing where pistons, bearings, and gears were interchangeable across models.
The 1968 UR II Crystal was the first tractor with a factory certified safety ROPS cab isolated from noise.
Hydraulically shifted under-load gear splitter giving immediate torque surge in heavy soil.
Bevel gear portal front axle design delivering massive ground clearance over tall row crops.
First Zetor tractor manufactured in Brno, establishing durable 2-cylinder diesel design.
Pioneered modular interchangeable tractor manufacturing with models 2011 to 4011.
World premiere of the safety rollover cab mounted on acoustic rubber vibration dampers.
Heavy-duty 160 HP 6-cylinder turbocharged machine widely exported worldwide.
Modernized mechanical utility and row-crop platforms meeting EU emissions standards.
Reintroduces the flagship 6-cylinder Crystal with 171 HP Deutz engine and Pininfarina styling.
Notable models in our Zetor catalog include the 16245 Crystal, representing key milestones in Zetor's agricultural engineering history.
All About Tractors currently tracks 98 verified specification sheets and laboratory test reports for Zetor tractors.
Official test reports from the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory and the DLG Test Center are linked directly on each individual Zetor tractor profile.
Zetor tractors in our database range from compact utility models up to high-horsepower row-crop machines delivering up to 170 hp.
Zetor equips its tractor lineups with certified diesel engines engineered for high torque rise, fuel economy, and compliance with emissions standards.
Depending on the series and manufacturing year, Zetor models feature synchronized mechanical gearboxes, multi-speed PowerShift units, or continuous variable transmissions (CVT).
The serial number plate is typically stamped on the transmission housing, front frame casting, or right-hand engine block. Match the sequential number against our Zetor yearly serial number records.
Zetor utility models feature Category 1, 2, or 3 three-point linkages with position control and draft sensing for heavy agricultural implements.
Certified OECD dynamometer testing measures Zetor fuel consumption under varying engine loads, providing exact gallons/hour and g/kWh consumption metrics.
Each Zetor specification page links to verified OEM parts lookups, aftermarket suppliers, and operator/workshop repair manuals.
Check engine cold-starting compression, hydraulic remote pressure, 3-point rockshaft seals, transmission shift smoothness under load, and front axle kingpin play.
